SA is in a good position to integrate fossil fuels with alternative energy sources, write scientists from the Centre for Energy Technology of the University of Adelaide.
For existing fossil-fuel-fired boilers, preheating with geothermal or solar-thermal energy is a way of "greening" a fraction of the electrical output. For example, in a project with solar power company Ausra, Liddell Power Station in New South Wales will save 4000 tonnes of CO2 per annum by preheating with solar-generated steam.
